Chapter 5: The Birth of a D-Rank Staff of Light

[What do I need to do to become a blacksmith?]

Author: I’llChangeMyNickLater123

Having thoroughly read the tip articles, I’m wondering what the first step is to become a blacksmith?

Everyone just keeps saying ‘blacksmiths are OP’ or ‘you absolutely have to do it,’ but no one explains *how* to actually do it. T.T

-B-RankSwordsmanGuildWanted: Ugh, you lazy newbie (TL Note: A Korean slang term, ‘pingpeu,’ short for ‘finger princess/prince,’ referring to someone who is too lazy to search for information themselves and expects others to spoon-feed it to them.)

–Author: I’m sorry T.T

–Wow, that’s genuinely malicious lololol.

–They’re not even human…

-Lololololololololol. You can only change your nickname after six months.

–Author: Really???

–Lolololololololololol.

-Just run straight to a blacksmith’s forge. They’re needlessly chummy and teach really well lol.

–Author: Oh… the closest one is next to Suwon Station. I can just go there first thing in the morning, right?

–B-RankSwordsmanGuildWanted: Yessss, that’s right.

To begin blacksmithing, one must, of course, visit a forge.

That is, if you’re a PseudoBlacksmith.

“Let’s goooooo!!!!!”

[You have successfully crafted 『Staff (D)』!]

[You have successfully crafted equipment for the first time! The [Inventory] function has been unlocked.]

“Oooh!!!”

Astonishingly, I had crafted a staff.

Although it was a random chance, it seemed even the type of equipment was randomized.

“Aren’t they going to reveal the probability table?!”

Though I suspected probability manipulation, since I had obtained the rarest mage weapon among all equipment types, I decided to quietly enjoy my good fortune for now.

Curious if any tickets remained, I pressed again, but receiving no response, I returned to the main screen.

‘Please proceed by pressing [Attribute Enchantment].’

The tutorial immediately continued.

Again, with a crude transition effect, the screen changed.

[ ]

[Attribute Enchantment]

‘Click an empty slot to insert your owned equipment, then proceed with attribute enchantment.’

‘First-time Attribute Enchantment Bonus! You can confirm the attribute to be granted.’

Naturally, the only equipment I could insert was the D-rank Staff I had just crafted.

Despite my disappointment, I tried several times to exit the Attribute Enchantment tutorial, but the screen remained fixed, refusing to advance.

Ultimately, I had no choice but to insert the D-rank Staff and press [Attribute Enchantment].

[List of Available Attributes]

––

Fire ☐

Water ☐

Earth ☐

Wind ☐

Lightning ☐

Light ☑

Darkness ☐

––

From the moment I heard that attribute enchantment was possible, I had already decided on the Light attribute in my heart, and I checked it.

I felt sorry for Yena (TL Note: The character Kwon Yena is associated with the Wind attribute, implying the protagonist initially considered choosing Wind for her), but in a situation where I could definitively choose an attribute, Wind was relegated to a lower priority.

It had to be either Light or Darkness, universally considered the rarest.

When I considered choosing Darkness, the guild that freaked out at the mere sight of dark magic came to mind, leaving me no choice but to select Light.

[You have successfully granted the Light attribute to 『Staff (D)』!]

[You have acquired 『Staff of Light (D)』!]

“Wow…”

Why would anyone bother with a three-year tutorial just to join a guild?

With a simple click, a D-rank Staff of Light just *poofs* into existence at the forge!

****

I had actually obtained a D-rank Staff of Light!

While D-rank might be dismissed as a grade mass-produced by PseudoBlacksmiths, the crucial factor wasn’t the rank itself, but the *type* of equipment.

[Why the Saintess is Delighted to Have Obtained a Mere E-rank Equipment]

To be precise, it was an E-rank Staff of Light.

Firstly, staffs themselves are incredibly rare.

Even with the noticeably smaller demand from mages, proportionally, there aren’t enough staffs to meet it. That should explain it.

Furthermore, the Light attribute <<< This, along with the Darkness attribute, has never appeared before.

Of course, since so little is known about the Darkness attribute, it might be hidden by guilds specializing in dark magic, but the Light attribute is definitely a first.

Even an E-rank weapon boosts skill efficiency by one grade, so that says it all.

Still, the Saintess has been able to contend with S-ranks even without a weapon, thanks to her wide-area healing and buffs, but now I'm certain she'll demonstrate even greater prowess.

-Ah, damn it;; Nerf the Saintess already;;

–Do you even know what kind of game this is?

–It's just that guild competition is so fierce these days, but if you think back five years, anyone becoming stronger was good for all of humanity.

-That amazing staff looks almost identical to the one my grandpa uses. Could my grandpa be the Saintess?

–Lololololololol. Damn it. If it's a grandpa, they'd be a Saint, or rather, the Pope.

–Since it's E-rank, its appearance is really shabby lol.

"Oh, damn it…"

The moment I obtained the D-rank Staff of Light, I immediately wanted to boast about it, so I checked the community forum, only to stumble upon this post.

The Saintess finally acquired a Light attribute staff, they said.

For a moment, I wondered if my crafting of a D-rank Staff of Light had been broadcast like a game-wide message, but thankfully, it was just a coincidence.

"Pfft… E-rank?"

As I calmed my startled heart, my Braggart (TL Note: 'Bitic,' a Korean slang term referring to showing off or flaunting something in a pretentious way) instincts naturally began to awaken.

They said the whole world was in an uproar over an E-rank acquisition, with the Holy Kingdom even registering it as a holy relic…

Yet, with a simple click, I had created a perfectly superior D-rank Staff of Light.

'If I post about it now, it'll cause a huge stir, won't it…?'

It seems it would be best to keep the Staff of Light hidden for a while.

Of course, it would be great if I could sell it to the Saintess, but that would expose me to the entire world far too quickly.

Suppressing my urge to brag, I closed the Hunter Gallery (TL Note: A common term for a forum or online community for hunters).

"Phew… I should just finish the tutorial."

It was too soon to boast about my abilities when I didn't even fully understand them yet.

I picked up my phone again and continued with the tutorial.

The next tutorial was, as expected, the last remaining one: [Equipment Repair].

I wondered how I would repair equipment when I didn't have any damaged items, but it turned out I didn't need to worry about it.

'For the equipment repair tutorial, a damaged piece of equipment will be provided.'

[Damaged Iron Sword]

Before I knew it, a Damaged Iron Sword was already resting on the anvil icon in the center of the screen.

🔨[Repair]

Tapping the conspicuously placed button, the screen immediately flashed, and the repair commenced.

[Repair Successful!]

[You have acquired 『Worn Iron Sword (E)』!]

"Hmm…"

Perhaps because I had just acquired a D-rank Staff of Light, I felt no particular excitement for the E-rank Worn Iron Sword.

'All tutorials have now concluded. Tutorials will be updated as new functions are added.'

'You can restart tutorials anytime you wish.'

With this helpful guidance, all tutorials came to an end.

Wondering what to do next, I returned to the main screen from the [Equipment Repair] interface, only to find a series of messages, previously unseen during the tutorial, appearing consecutively in the center of the screen.

[First equipment crafting successful! [Equipment Storage] has been unlocked.]

[First attribute enchantment successful! [Equipment Appraisal] has been unlocked.]

[First equipment repair successful! [Equipment Codex] has been unlocked.]

[Main tutorial complete! You can now acquire equipment crafting tickets!]

"Whoa, damn it, why is there so much?!"

Messages flooded the screen all at once.

Fortunately, I managed to read them all, but a single glance wasn't enough to fully grasp their contents.

I considered scrolling back down to restart the tutorial, but it didn't seem strictly necessary.

'Should I just tap each one once?'

[Equipment Crafting]

[Attribute Enchantment]

[Equipment Repair]

Beneath the three existing functions.

This was the location where hidden functions, previously adorned with lock icons and question marks, used to reside.

[Equipment Storage] NEW!

[Equipment Appraisal] NEW!

[Equipment Codex] NEW!

The new functions gleamed brightly, as if begging to be noticed.

In truth, while going through the tutorials, I had already begun to think I could manage without them.

This was because the names of the functions were so intuitive that their purpose seemed perfectly clear.

Starting from the top, I pressed [Equipment Storage] first.

A plethora of square boxes appeared, with the staff and iron sword occupying the first and second slots, respectively.

*Pressing*

[Would you like to retrieve 『Staff of Light (D)』?]

Intrigued by how it would be retrieved, I immediately pressed the retrieve button.

*Thud—*

"Oh!"

Just then, the staff materialized right before me, on my bed.

"Wow… look at its luster…"

Although my D-rank staff didn't appear particularly extraordinary at first glance, perhaps because it was a higher-grade staff than the E-rank one recognized as a holy relic, it felt remarkably like a high-quality item.

'To put it back in…'

"Oh."

As I pondered how to put it back, the staff in my hand vanished instantly, returning to the inventory on the screen.

After confirming it was safely stored, and seeing no other functions in [Equipment Storage], I returned to the main screen.

'This time…'

Next was the newly added [Equipment Appraisal].

This, too, was a function whose purpose was easily predictable.

On the left side of the screen, there was an empty slot to insert an item, accompanied by a 🔍️ icon, while my owned equipment appeared on the right.

Naturally, the equipment I chose to appraise was the 『Staff of Light (D)』.

After inserting the equipment and tapping the 🔍️ icon, a blue window appeared in the center of the screen.

It resembled an equipment status window.

––

Name: Staff

Rank: D

Attribute: Light

Effects:

-When equipped by a Light-aligned Awakener, Magic stat increases by 1 stage.

-Efficiency of Light-aligned skills increases by 50%.

[The touch of a Blacksmith has imbued it with a special power]

Additional Effects:

-When equipped by a Light-aligned Awakener, Intelligence stat increases by 1 stage.

-If the user receives a Blacksmith's Recognition, [Status Ailment Cure (D)] becomes usable.

––

"Wow…"

I had become the chairman of the Blacksmith Recognition Association, certified by the status window itself.

To receive recognition from the Blacksmith Recognition Association, my 「Sanction」 was absolutely necessary.
