Chapter 12: The Titan Onslaught

[Your actions are shaking the entire gallery!]

[You have acquired 100 BP!]

[Current Points: 500 BP]

[You can unlock the greatest beast: Behemoth!]

Before long, an enormous amount of points had accumulated.

Enough to unlock the second tier.

‘There seemed no immediate need to expend them. I resolved to save them, just in case.’

Given my current formidable strength, there seemed no compelling reason to utilize them.

Moreover, I considered that unlocking other transformations might not be a bad idea; broadening one’s range of options invariably proves advantageous.

[To unlock the Titan, Antikythera, 1000 BP are required.]

[To unlock the Titan, Leviathan, 2000 BP are required.]

[To unlock the Titan, ‘Greed (TL Note: The Korean character ‘탐’ (tam) means ‘greed’ or ‘covetousness’),’ 5000 BP are required.]

That’s utterly out of reach. Accumulating BP at this rate seemed almost impossible.

‘Truthfully, the quickest method for accumulating points lay in direct engagement.’

To gather points quickly, hunting and killing Titans, as I had done before, was indeed the most efficient method.

However, for peace of mind and body, engaging in activities within the Magical Girl Gallery was preferable.

‘While no immediate imperative compelled me to grow stronger, I felt it would be advantageous to possess a more diverse array of abilities.’

After all, I am constantly under scrutiny. I needed to secure some means of self-defense. I would have to find ways to gather more points…

[We will host an event for point collection!]

What was that?

Something just flashed into my mind and vanished quickly.

Yet, I had no time to ponder the strange phenomenon.

“Kyaaaaaaak!”

“W-wait, what in the world is that?!”

“What’s happening…?”

“H-Hyunseong! Look outside!”

“What?”

Their words proved true.

Hearing the commotion, I stepped outside and found all the employees gathered by the windows.

Following their gaze, I too looked out—only to witness a horrific scene, one that would have been better left unseen.

‘Titans. Dozens of them…’

Titans are seasoned hunters.

Even the weakest among them could tear apart ten unarmed adult men in an instant.

They continuously erupted from the ground, then sprinted forward with the speed of motorcycles, pouncing upon their delectable prey.

“W-what do we do?!”

“Shhh! Stay still… The defense forces will arrive soon.”

“But the people!”

“It’s already too late!”

They resembled a pack of wolves.

Indeed, their appearance was quite similar, though their size was immense—just three of them gathered could likely devour an elephant.

These quadrupeds attacked cars and buildings, dragging out people and beginning their feast.

Within mere minutes of their appearance, the people on the streets were transformed into piles of corpses.

“A Magical Girl will be here soon. If we just stay inside…”

“By the time they arrive, half the citizens will probably be dead, won’t they? Oh, wait. Why is that one looking over here—”

Damn it.

Of all things, our eyes met.

The creature was about four meters tall, a quadruped resembling a wolf, with several grotesque tentacles sprouting from its body.

Its rank was, at best, low-tier, a level that could be repelled with firearms.

The problem was that there were no such weapons here.

Moreover, the creature possessed powerful leg strength, capable of invading a three-story building without any running start.

“Uwaaaah!”

The Titan seemed to have decided to hunt us.

It recoiled for a moment, then lunged like an arrow, smashing through the window and charging in.

As one unfortunate employee’s upper body was instantly shredded, the others scattered in every direction.

There was no choice.

If I stayed like this, everyone would surely die.

Even if it meant revealing myself, I had to transform now.

‘Wait, why am I only thinking of transforming now?’

A normal person would have transformed the moment they saw them.

Then no one would have died…

‘No, dismiss that thought. I need to transform first.’

It felt strange how calm my mind was, but there was no time to question it.

People would die if I hesitated any longer.

“Transf—”

[Warning! There are too many witnesses. Transformation is not permitted.]

“What? Transform now!”

[If your ability to transform into a Titan becomes known, your life will be in danger.]

What utter nonsense is this?

My very life could be forfeit!

[The low-tier entity ‘Darkwolf’ will not instinctively attack you.]

[Therefore, you are safe.]

[Transformation is not recommended. Your security takes precedence.]

Indeed.

The Titan strictly adhered to its instinct of targeting weaker prey first.

It completely ignored me, as if I didn’t exist, and instead lashed its blade-like tentacles across the backs and legs of the terrified, fleeing employees.

Their bodies were sliced through with sickening ease, as if made of tofu.

“This way!”

“Hough! Hough!”

In an instant, the office was drenched in blood.

A thick, cloying scent of gore permeated the air.

The surviving employees, including me, frantically rushed into the breakroom, only to find themselves trapped.

“What in the world is happening?! The alarm didn’t even go off!”

“Oh, what do we do…? The signal’s out too.”

“For now, all we can do is wait for Scarlet to arrive!”

“Grrrrr!”

This is insane.

Why are Titans appearing at an agency under the Hero Association?

It seemed they weren’t even detected in the first place.

“W-well… Scarlet is at a regular meeting, so it’ll take some time for her to return.”

“This is driving me crazy.”

A team supporting a Grade 1 Magical Girl had no need for separate security.

After all, Scarlet was there.

With the strongest among them present, employing additional guards would simply be a waste of resources.

‘Transform, you motherfucker!’

[Transformation denied. There must be no witnesses.]

‘Shut up and do it!’

[The combined value of the office employees is lower than maintaining your identity.]

It would only take a single moment.

I could tear that Titan to shreds in the blink of an eye.

Yet, the system was refusing.

Why?

I possessed the ability to do it… Was it truly denying me?

“Damn it! I’ll buy us some time! Everyone, get out through the back door!”

“M-manager?”

“Don’t let this appearance fool you; I used to be with the city’s defense force. I don’t have a gun, but… I’ve taken down plenty of these things before.”

“Wait!”

“Hyunseong, you run too!”

While I stood by, someone sprang into action.

It was someone whose face I’d only seen once, a manager.

Why was he suddenly doing something like this?

There was no time to stop him.

If he had just stayed put, he might have lived.

Yet, he willingly threw his life away to buy us time.

His only weapon was a single fire extinguisher, a pathetically meager tool against a Titan.

“Uwaaaah!”

As expected, the Titan’s body was far too tough to be repelled by a mere fire extinguisher.

The Titan, which had been openly exposing its back while devouring a corpse, let out a gurgling sound of displeasure and turned around.

“Oh, for crying out loud… I shouldn’t have been so reckless.”

Those were the manager’s last words.

*Crunch!* With that sound, his head vanished.

“Ah…”

“Don’t just stand there blankly, hurry and get out!”

It wasn’t entirely meaningless.

Thanks to him, the other employees gained time to escape.

‘He didn’t have to die. This damn system.’

I didn’t know who that person was.

As a mascot, I wasn’t supposed to interact with other employees.

It was strict proof that I was merely the property of a Grade 1 Magical Girl.

Yet, the death of someone who knew me, however slightly, delivered a profound psychological shock.

“Ugh… M-manager.”

With few people remaining, the evacuation proceeded swiftly.

All the while, the Titan continued to tear at the headless corpse.

It must have heard the commotion, but satisfying its hunger was clearly its first priority.

[Transformation is now possible.]

All the employees had escaped.

Every single one.

Now, that son of a b*tch was a dead man walking.

[Transforming into Behemoth.]

I lunged instantly, seizing the leg of the Titan that was tearing at the corpse, and yanked it back.

“Yelp!”

It shrieked like a small dog kicked in the paw as it was dragged towards me.

There was no reason to show mercy.

I lifted it with monstrous strength and slammed it onto the floor.

Carefully, I modulated my power to ensure it wouldn’t die immediately.

*Thud! Thud! Thud!* After slamming it repeatedly until the floor vibrated, I ripped open its belly with my bare hands.

Its internal organs spilled out, but I simply swallowed them whole.

“You wretched bastard.”

After a prolonged outburst of fury, I gasped for breath, scanning my surroundings.

Outside, Titans still swarmed, their sheer numbers grotesque to behold.

[A hunting event has been added!]

[Eliminate the remaining Titans within the time limit!]

[1 BP will be added per entity!]

[Stronger entities will yield more points.]

Ultimately, my task was clear.

I would kill them.

Leaving nothing behind.

****

“This is Team 6, Marcela! Eighty-one low-tier Titans have appeared! Requesting immediate support!”

[No! We don’t have the resources to send anyone!]

“What? But without support, we’re in danger too!”

[Titans have appeared simultaneously in every sector! Stop them by any means necessary!]

“Hello? Hello! We have casualties here! Please don’t abandon us!”

What in the world was happening?

Never before had Titans appeared in such large groups.

Consequently, there was no contingency plan for this mass emergence.

“Marcela! That’s not important. They’re coming!”

“Ugh… Just pour all the bullets you have! We need to establish a firing line somehow!”

Unlike the Magical Girls of Team 4, who wielded modified anti-aircraft guns, Team 6’s personal firearms were quite ordinary.

Lifting an M240 machine gun in each hand, *Dududududududu—!* bullets rained down ceaselessly.

Her overwhelming strength meant there was no recoil whatsoever.

Bullets continued to spray until the magazines were empty.

Hundreds of rounds per second pierced the bodies of the charging Titans.

“Our firepower… it’s not enough!”

Even when the remaining Magical Girls picked up their fallen comrades’ weapons and fired, their firepower proved insufficient.

A few Titans collapsed, but even in death, they served as shields for their advancing brethren.

“They’re coming! At this rate, it’ll have to be close combat…”

The dozens of Titans thus broke through the defensive line, intent on crushing those who had pelted them with irritating bullets.

They truly believed that with a single touch, they could tear them to shreds.

“You parasitic bastards.”

*CRAAASH!*

Their confidence was shattered as Behemoth descended from the sky.

“J-Jara? Why are you here?!”

Titans instinctively fear those of higher hierarchy.

Behemoth, one of the greatest Titans, instilled terror in the low-tier Titans by its mere presence.

“Grrrk!”

Some Titans attempted to flee, but even that was not permitted.

Behemoth charged at them far more swiftly, tearing them apart one by one.

It burst and ripped through the Titans’ hides, which even the machine guns’ firepower had struggled to penetrate.

“I-it’s impossible.”

“Is that even possible…?”

The time it took to clear dozens of low-tier Titans:

Approximately four minutes.

It was an unprecedented record, one that would likely never be broken.

“Oh…! It’s coming this way?”

“What do we do if it attacks us too?”

“Excuse me.”

“I-it’s talking! Jara is talking!”

Regardless of their surprise, Hyunseong spoke his piece.

His voice, after all, was unrecognizable; everything was modulated in his transformed state.

“Please evacuate the citizens. I have dealt with all the Titans in this vicinity.”

Behemoth’s voice had an unsettling quality.

The two Magical Girls instinctively flinched in primal fear, but knowing it wouldn’t harm them, they managed to continue speaking.

“I-it’s impossible. There must be at least hundreds of them…?”

“I assure you, I am not joking.”

The Magical Girl looked in the direction Hyunseong pointed.

On the road lay hundreds of squelching masses of flesh.

A seven-meter-long, lion-like monster lay with a massive hole torn in its side.

Long intestines gushed out from the wound, making it clear, without a word, who had done this.

“It is safe now. So please, heed my words. Do you intend to put the citizens at risk?”

“Y-yes, sir…”

The Magical Girl decided to trust this Titan.

He turned his body, determined to depart in search of his next target.

Although primal fear still gripped her, leaving her unable to speak, Marcela decided to muster the courage of a lifetime.

“Um… Jara-nim? I have a request. Would it be possible to take just one photograph?!”

She cried out, her legs trembling.

What if he changed his mind and attacked?

Then it would truly be…

“No.”

Hyunseong did not grant her request, and in the end, Marcela failed to obtain valuable material for a viral post.
